SEO roadmap template (six months)
A six-month SEO roadmap template: monthly themes, prioritised initiatives with owners and effort, dependencies, and the numbers that prove progress.
How to use it: agree the roadmap with the client once, then link to it from every monthly report. When priorities change, edit this page rather than sending a new one. Version history keeps the old plan.
Example roadmap: Ledgerline, October 2026 – March 2027. Prepared for Ledgerline, a fictional accounting software company, after the Q3 review.
What this roadmap is for#
Grow organic trial sign-ups from about 430 a month to 650 by March 2027. Most of the growth has to come from non-branded searches: payroll (launching November), year-end tax deadlines, and comparisons with the two largest competitors.
Month by month#
| Month | Theme | Main deliverables |
|---|---|---|
| October | Payroll groundwork | Keyword map for payroll; 4 payroll pages drafted |
| November | Payroll launch | 8 payroll pages live with the product launch; internal links from 20 guides |
| December | Year-end demand | 1099 and tax-deadline pages refreshed; deadline calendar |
| January | Tax season | Monitor and update deadline content; comparison page refresh |
| February | Conversion | Pricing-first tests on the nonprofit and contractor pages |
| March | Review and next plan | Six-month review; roadmap for April–September |
Initiatives#
| Initiative | Impact | Effort | Owner | Target month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Payroll content cluster (8 pages) | High | High | Agency writes; product team reviews | Nov |
| Internal links from guides to product pages | Medium | Low | Agency | Nov |
| Year-end tax content refresh | High | Medium | Agency | Dec |
| Comparison pages refresh (pricing tables) | High | Low | Agency | Jan |
| Nonprofit page pricing-first test | Medium | Medium | Agency + Ledgerline design | Feb |
| Link building: accounting associations | Medium | High | Agency | Ongoing |
Dependencies#
- Payroll pages need the final plan names and prices by 20 October.
- The pricing tests need a designer for about two days in February.
- Any change to the product's URL structure must be shared four weeks ahead so redirects can be planned.
How we'll know it's working#
| Measure | Now | March 2027 target |
|---|---|---|
| Organic trial sign-ups per month | ~430 | 650 |
| Non-branded share of organic clicks | 64% | 70% |
| Payroll keywords in the top ten | 0 | 10 of 25 |
| Sign-up rate from organic | 2.7% | 3.0% |
Progress against this table appears in every monthly report.
What's deliberately not in this plan#
- A blog redesign. The current layout converts well and isn't holding rankings back.
- International pages. Worth revisiting when the UK launch date is set.
